Kristy's Adventure

My friend Kristy is a close and personal friend of "Murphy". If it is going to happen to anyone its going to be Kristy. I keep telling her to write a book! Her son, Kory just got published, she would in a heartbeat!

Ok, as the story goes (in Kristy's words)

Last week I was on my way to the mall when my cell phone rings, it was my dad who was checking in as they (my folks) just got back from Florida the day before. He was calling from a local restaurant right by the Mall to invite me to join them for dinner. Unfortunately, I had just eaten but told him I’d join them for a drink nonetheless.
We enjoyed our short visit catching up on all the happenings and such. When the check arrived my mom promptly declares to us that she left her purse at home. My dad says ‘no problem I have my wallet in the car’ and handed me his keys asking me to retrieve it from his vehicle (a caravan). Keep in mind, I know his car well as I’ve traded my convertible with him many times when I needed more room traveling to and from bear shows.

He proceeds to tell my exactly where the wallet is hidden in his center console as my mom says the car is right out in front of the building in the ‘1st row’. So I bounce out the door… and sure enough as I round the building, there sits his ‘red’ caravan… in the 1st row just where mom said it would be. I click the key fob to unlock the door and then open the driver’s door and hop inside. Then search right where I was instructed to… and no wallet? Thinking… Hmmmm, this isn’t good? So I shuffle things around a bit and continue to dig. Still unable to find it I go back inside the place and explain the situation. They both asked if I looked above the drink holder on the dashboard. I said ‘Yes’ above it, below it, even under the seats, and everywhere.

My dad goes into great detail to tell me it’s hidden in a ‘secret’ compartment above the drink holder and for me to pull out the panel just above it and the wallet would be inside. I said I thought that that was what I was doing but chuckled and went back for a second try to find the illusive secret hiding spot. I click the key fob again, open the door, and once again go in for the kill. Sure enough there’s the drink holder and a panel just above it (as he described) SO, I pull… and pull… and nothing budges. NOW, I’m really perplexed at how inept I am in such simple instructions. Not willing to give up I yanked one more time… and SNAP! The plastic panel thingy breaks off in my hand. Does it reveal a hidden compartment?!! NO!! NOW, I admitted defeat and joined them at the table once again with NO WALLET.

I said “is this your way of getting me to buy dinner?” They laughed! I handed him the broken piece to the caravan and said: “I quit, you’re going to have to show me this terrific hiding spot!!” So off we both go heading for the parking lot. As we round the building, I couldn’t help but notice… I go to the left… and he goes to the right?! I said ‘where are you going? He says: ‘to my car’ and points to a RED caravan!?? All at once, it suddenly hits me; I was IN the WRONG CAR! His vehicle was only 2 cars away… on the other side of a Big SUV (just out of my sight.) I about died right then and there! I was in such shock still holding the panel piece to ‘their’ car in my hand!! Thank goodness the rightful owner didn’t come as I was thumbing though the front seat NOT once but twice! If he would caught me and asked what the ‘heck’ I was doing… I would have replied ‘Um, Looking for a wallet? :o) OMG!! I made my dad put the piece back in the car and luckily he said it snapped right back into place. WHEW!!

Did we ever laugh about that one!!
